Boston-based
Catie
Curtis is noted for her exquisite powerful voice (often
compared to Karla
Bonoff) and for writing gentle songs with poignant humanist
and feminist messages — always powerful, personal statements
that rarely drift into preaching. She usually performs with an
acoustic guitar, backed by bass and drums. Her recording debut was
1989's cassette-only Dandelion
for the independent Mongoose label. Since then she has released From
Years to Hours (Mongoose, 1991) and Truth
from Lies (Hear Music, 1995). Curtis
remains a favorite on the folk club and festival circuit,
returning to record stores in 1999 with Crash
Course in Roses. — Sandra Brennan, All Music
